Plagiarism Policy
Plagiarism Policy
JETS maintains a strict policy against plagiarism to protect the originality, integrity and reliability of the scholarly record.
The Journal of Engineering and Technological Sciences (JETS) is committed to publishing original research and adhering to the highest standards of publication ethics.
All authors submitting manuscripts to JETS must affirm that their work is original and has not been plagiarized. This policy explains what JETS considers plagiarism, how manuscripts are screened, and what action may be taken when plagiarism is identified.
Description
Plagiarism involves presenting another person's work, ideas, words or data as one's own without proper attribution or permission.
Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:
Plagiarism is a serious breach of academic and publication ethics and is unacceptable in any form. Authors are expected to scrupulously acknowledge the work and ideas of others.
Policy
Screening
All manuscripts submitted to JETS undergo a rigorous plagiarism check prior to peer review.
Tool
JETS uses Turnitin, an industry-standard plagiarism detection software, to screen submitted manuscripts for text similarity.
Turnitin reports that manuscripts with an overall similarity index of more than 15% will undergo further scrutiny. A manuscript that shares more than 5% with any single source is also examined by the editors, even if its overall similarity index is below 15%.
Exclusions from Similarity Check
The plagiarism detection software will be configured to exclude the list of references or bibliography and properly formatted direct quotations, enclosed in quotation marks and appropriately cited, from the similarity calculation.
Consequences of Plagiarism
If plagiarism is detected in a submitted manuscript before publication, the manuscript may be rejected or sent back to the author for revision and resubmission. The corresponding author will be notified.
If plagiarism is discovered in a published article, JETS will investigate the matter thoroughly. If plagiarism is confirmed, the article will be retracted and a notice of retraction will be published.
The authors' institutions may also be notified.
Technicalities to Achieve and Materialise the Policies
Upon receiving a new manuscript submission, the editorial office will use Turnitin to generate a similarity report.
Editorial staff carefully review the similarity report. A high similarity index does not automatically mean plagiarism; human oversight is crucial.
Editors assess whether identified similarities constitute plagiarism or are legitimate, such as common phrases, standard methodological descriptions or properly cited material.
Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their submissions and for correctly citing all sources.
Authors should also ensure that they have obtained permission to use any copyrighted material.
If plagiarism is suspected at any stage, JETS will follow established ethical procedures for handling such allegations. Authors will be given an opportunity to respond to the allegations.
JETS is committed to transparency in its plagiarism-checking process. Authors with questions about the plagiarism check are encouraged to contact the editorial office.
JETS regularly reviews and updates its plagiarism policy and procedures to align with best practices and evolving standards in publication ethics.
